Petition Research

This is a petition that caught my eye, It's to make Male and Female car insurance the same.
This took my interest because I do not believe in discrimination and this is a perfect example of Sex discrimination. I feel Male and Female's both have the SAME rights as each other.

Here is a link to the petition i have researched,

My Campaign

My Campaign is about free student travel, for example giving students attending Secondary Schools and Students attending Sixth Form. I have done a fair bit of research and results show that 24 million pounds of tax payers money goes towards giving police free travel on trains. So why should the police gain free travel and Students are left to folk out money to get to college. The link below shows more on the article,

I have also researched that OAPs (over 60s) and the Disabled receive free bus travel anywhere they like like in Britain. I feel this is fair but surely if the government can folk out for Police and OAPs surely, Student travel can't help?

Prices for Bus Passes and weekly tickets are way to expensive, for just 4 weeks to one destination and back it costs £42. Can parent's or even college students afford to pay that much anyway? And for a bus pass for the whole year costs £350 and who wants to folk out that amount of money just to go to college?

The government are telling people to stop using their own transport and start using local transport to save the environment. But I don't see MPs and Government leaders doing so, how can they tell people to use public transport when prices are way to high! No wonder young people are learning to drive, it probably works out cheaper!

The Aim of my campaign is to get enough young people between the ages of 16-19 to agree with receiving free bus travel. Because if you look at the bigger picture 75% of students are paying to go to college and that just isn't right! Also the aim of my campaign is to get the attention of the Government to respond to my idea and approve of it.

People who will stand against me during the process of my campaign are OAPs, Taxpayers and The government itself.
- OAPs have received free bus travel because they either served in the war or can't earn a sustainable living and they will think "Why should Young people receive free bus travel, they are the ones for violence today"
- Taxpayers will not want bills to rise so they can send students to college.
- The Government itself will not allow itself to pay for students unless the campaign reaches them and they start to agree with some of my points

Stop Mill Road Tesco

Tom Woodcock came in today and gave a talk on how he helps the local community and the petitions he does outside his teaching to help improve every day life. Tom Woodcock is secretary of the Cambridge & District Trades Union. He has been involved in many recent petitions for example, Save Jobs at Cambridge University Press, Postal Workers Strike and trying to stop Tesco gaining planning permission for Mill Road.
I gained interest in the last one 'Stopping Tesco getting planning permission for mill road' because it was the most interesting out of them all and I agreed with Tom's points and why it should be stopped.

3 Questions

Do You Catch A Bus In The Morning?
Do You feel Buses Are To Expensive?
Do You Think Bus Company's Like StageCoach Should Reduce The Cost Of Bus Travel for students coming in from over 5 miles away?
Do you feel all students should receive a free bus pass to use for college?

30th November, Campaigns and Communications

Yesterday Amber Beeson A Writer/Creative designer came into talk to us about creating Campaigns and attracting the the target audience using a range of techniques.
Our task for this lesson was to create a poster about 'What could be improved at hospitals'
We created the poster based on what we thought doctors could do to improve what they do around the hospital to make it better for patients. And we thought spending more time with the patients would improve there mentality because you'd feel the doctor cares about your problem at the time.

The poster didn't come out as well as planned because we didn't have lots of time to create it and little time to create it. If I could do the poster again I would work faster and ask for more time to create the poster.

24th November

Today I cut out my stencil and painted it onto the T-shirt.
Cutting out my stencil was easy because I have already cut out a stencil in previous lessons so I knew what I was doing and could get on with it. Also working with two layers makes it easier because you know what letters to cut out and what not to cut out.
It was difficult cutting out the letters because the bridges were quite small so it was easy to slip and break the bridge. Also your hand started to hurt after a while from cutting out to many letters.
When painting the stencil onto the T-Shirt you had to dap it softly otherwise you would have a big sploge of paint underneath the stencil which would ruin your T-Shirt. So you had to be very careful when painting.

If I could do it again, I would make the words bigger and I would make the bridges bigger because it was very hard to cut them out without breaking them. Secondly I would have made the bridges on my Robot bigger because I broke them once or twice. And lastly I would of used a protective mat instead of a clipboard because the stencil kept slipping off the clipboard.
I would Of used less paint on my T-Shirt because I painted the right side of my Robots arm a little to much which lead to it being a tiny bit blurred, but other than that I would say its a job well done.

21st November

Today I Searched the Internet for materials to make a stencil with. I was finding materials for the cheapest amount and for the most quality and durable amount.

It was fairly easy to find different materials on websites like ebay and Amazon.
They both had a range of quality products for making the stencil, some came with a price tag and some didn't. I didn't really encounter any problems when copying down the products for quality. Although it was hard to find squeegees because it came up with lots of different results.

If Had to do it again, I would have compared more website besides ebay and Amazon. Because I was mainly looking at the same sellers materials and didn't get much of a range. Just the same prices and the same sellers.

Comparing the different materials was a fairly easy task and it does make you think about what you actually need to create a stencil and how much effort goes in to making the Printed T-shirts.

I also filled in a Risk assessment for making and print the stencil because there are always hazards and risks when doing anything. I thought about all the different risks there could be when cutting out the stencil, for example you could slip and cut your fingers. Therefore you would need protective gloves. Also you could get pain in your eyes when painting either through yourself or the fault of someone else. This means you would need protective goggles.

Blog Reflexion

What did I do Today?
- Today I finished my Stencil and Printed it off.
Also i Filled in my Action Plan sheet,

What Went well and Why?
I made my Design easier and simpler which will help me when it comes to cutting out the stencil because it won't be as much work.

What could I do differently?
I would have changed the colours of my stencil when i printed it off.
I would make my my design more creative as a Robot didn't have much to do with Bus Travel.

Overall I feel my Stencil came out well and I finished it on time. My design was very simple to create but fairly random because most people wouldn't connect a robot with bus travel. Also making the previous stencil before hand helped because I could get straight on with it.

Stencil Art Evaluation

When I started sketching many various ideas for the Stencil. I found it very enjoyable, because we were able to sketch out lots of different ideas and receive feedback to improve our ideas. Also when drawing out ideas before designing the final piece, I'm able to make mistakes without ruining the plan. The thing I liked most about this technique was being able to put real creativity into the drawings and being able to explore a range of different colour combinations to suit my Stencil. If I could do this part of the project again and change something, it would be making the ideas more simple, rather than making them too complex to work on.

Going from creating the stencil on paper too creating it on Photoshop was a real step up, because we had to re-create our chosen image following specific Instructions. Also we had to make sure it was perfect and their were bridges to hold the stencil together, because without them the stencil would fall apart. Also we had to have two layers for the stencil because their was to different colours to be used. I encountered a problem using photoshop, my stencil I had designed was to complex to be printed so I had to change it last minute. This wasn't to much hassle because it ended up looking a better image than the previous I had designed.

When I had finished designing my stencil on Photoshop, I felt confident that I could then use Photoshop to design more stencils if needed. Also knowing the little things, i.e removing a background from an image and changing the colour of the image can help me later in other projects we start. I enjoyed Re-Creating the Image on Photoshop and there would be nothing I would change about what I did.

Cutting out the stencil when it was on acetate became challenging and tested our carving skills.
I had to be delicate with the knife and acetate because it would be easy to slip and cut the wrong part. Also cutting the acetate was tricky because you could of easily cut the wrong part out like I did many times. I was happy that I had chosen a simple design to carve out because I didn't have the problem of cutting out small letters and detail like others did.

I picked up some skills when cutting out the Acetate, like not cutting out the wrong parts and that without bridges the acetate would have fallen apart and wouldn't of worked properly. Also the finalized Stencil looks good when you take your time and concentrate on cutting it right. If I had to cut out the Stencil I would concentrate on cutting the right part out as It put me behind having to start again.

I feel spraying the Stencil onto the Card was the easiest because you didn't have to draw anything out or Re-create anything all you had to do was spray. Spraying the Stencils was the most fun because it was different to classwork and seeing the stencil finished is the best part i think, because you feel proud of what you have created and its good to know that the planning pays off. I'm most pleased that the Stencil came out better than expected and looked professional like one of Banksy's famous pieces. I was happy with the way the stencil came out but I would change the colours if I could go back and do it again.

This is a short Video On the Living Conditions where T-Shirts are made on the backstreets of India. These workers receive a minimum of just 30p for a 13 hour shift and then sleep on the workshop floor and then wake up and do it all over.

Campaign Ideas

1.) Getting a job would improve my life because, I would like to receive more money. Also this would help me because I would have more money to spend on personal occasions instead of a set limit. So therefore I think there should be more jobs advertised for young people instead of having to go and search and scramble around in shops for jobs.

2.) Something that would help lots of people would be free Bus Travel for students whilst in full time education. Over 500 people have to get the bus to travel to there college everyday. And over 200 people have to get more than one bus to get to college. And for people who cannot afford to get the bus everyday may find it hard to keep a steady attendance at college and therefore may result in letters home. So I think free bus travel should be awarded to Students getting the bus to college.

3.) Spending the day with a homeless person would make them smile because all day they are sitting around watching each day pass and nobody to talk to. So therefore I think there should be a set day once a year named "Spend a day with the Homeless" and i think this would make them smile because they then know that people in the world do care about them.

My stencil

This is the Rolling Stones Logo which is known worldwide. The Rolling Stones have been around since the 60s. I picked this because I think it will stand out and everyone will recognise it. Secondly it will be very trendy and popular with all ages.

Banksy's choice of colour

Banksy uses very little colour in his work, but when he does he uses it effectively. When he does use colour it draws your attention to it. For example, The Flower Chucker, your eye is drawn towards the flowers he is holding because you wouldn't think that he would be throwing flowers in the clothes he is dressed in.

Banksy

Banksy is an anonymous Graffiti artist who has published many of his pieces in very popular public places. For example these four images were done on the Palestinian Wall, which separates Israeli and Palestinian people.
Banksy was told that there were no security in the towers at the time because it was winter and they only work during the summer, Banksy finished his stencils but didn't know that the guards were in the towers armed. He was very lucky he wasn't seen because there could of been  serious consequences.

Battlefront: A mission to go where no young person has gone before - James Greenhalgh from Battlefronters on Vimeo.

The Actors in the video promote the video by contacting the audience directly. For example going out in the local town and trying to round up supporters. Also they get people to sign a petition to get more people to approve of lowering University Fees. And the outcome of this they get a Candidate to pass the views forward in the next meeting.

CRam LOGO

My Logo is short and simple and consists of 4 colours, Green, Red, Yellow and Brown.
I think my Logo is T-shirt Worthy because it stands out well and is very clear and easy to understand. Because the T-Shirt printer only allows 4 colours being printed including black, I shall have to change one of the colours so it will print properly.

The Spreadshirt

-The Spreadshirt allows you to put your own text onto the T-shirt. This gives you the chance to buy a T-shirt designed by you. These T-shirts help tremendously for our own benefit. For example, If you are a sports club manager, you can get T-shirts with the name of your club. Also if you are Advertising something, you can get the logo and the name printed on the T-shirts. Lastly you can get campaign messages across by printing your message onto a T-shirt. The T-shirt costs £13.60 excluding a delivery charge of £2.20 which comes to £15.80 which is expensive for a T-shirt.

The History of the T-Shirt

- A T-shirt (or tee shirt) is a shirt which is pulled on over the head to cover most of a person's torso. A T-shirt is usually buttonless, collarless, and pocketless, with a round neck and short sleeves.

-Initially pegged as an undergarment, the T-Shirt soon came in to it's own on the big screen. John Wayne, Marlon Brando and James Dean all shocked Americans by wearing their underwear on national TV. In 1951, Marlon Brando shocked Americans in his film "A Streetcar Named Desire" when his T-Shirt was ripped off of his body revealing his naked chest.

-In the 60's people began to tie dye and screenprint the basic cotton T-Shirt making it an even bigger commercial success. Advances in printing and dying allowed more variety and the Tank Top, Muscle Shirt, Scoop Neck, V-Neck, and many other variations of the T-Shirt came in to fashion.

- The T-Shirt was inexpensive, in style, and could make any statement you cared to print. The American T-Shirt came into it's own during the late sixties and seventies. Rock and Roll bands began to realize that they could make significant amounts of money selling their T-Shirts. Professional Sports caught on and soon the officially licensed T-Shirt became hot merchandise.
